QOTW: The Crossings of Poros

But his chief peril lay in the south, where the Haradrim had occupied South Gondor, and there was much fighting along the Poros. When Ithilien was invaded in great strength, King Folcwine of Rohan fulfilled the Oath of Eorl and repaid his debt for the aid brought by Beregond, sending many men to Gondor. With their aid Túrin won a victory at the crossing of the Poros; but the sons of Folcwine both fell in the battle. The riders buried them after the fashion of their people, and they were laid in one mound, for they were twin brothers. Long it stood, Haudh in Gwanûr, high upon the shore of the river, and the enemies of Gondor feared to pass it.

Achievements

Here are the achievements we had for this quest:

Mordor BOGO!

Forced: After a set aside encounter card is revealed, put into play, placed in the encounter discard pile, or shuffled into the encounter deck as a result of an encounter card effect, choose an additional encounter card from that set aside encounter set when resolving the encounter card effect, if able.

Problem for Future Me

Whenever an effect gives a choice, always choose to add a random card from a set aside encounter set to the encounter deck.

Encounter Card Opinions

I don’t know why this surprised me, but the favorite encounter card by those who played the quest this week was The Poros Garrison. You’ll probably only see this card for a round or two, but it’s good! No problems here.

There were no encounter cards that were nominated for both categories this week.

Taking 4 out of the 5 votes for least favorite encounter card this week was Desolate Land. This card is nasty. Extremely high threat combined with a harsh Forced effect that triggers whenever it becomes the active location–meaning there’s no way to get around any Travel effects with things like Strider’s Path. The only real ways to deal with it are to have few characters in play for all players (this is one of the many reasons that Three Hunters is good against this quest), have lots of excess willpower all the time, or have Thror’s key at the ready.

Things worth sharing from the games

I accidentally did “Problem for Future Me.” Oops! It worked out, though.

I was using this quest to prep for con, and I think it’s safe to say my decks are firing because I absolutely crushed it. I stayed on staged 2 for like 7 rounds completing side quests and stabilizing, then when I was ready to move on I finished each quest stage in 1 round.
