It has been kept secret and kept safe, but now four players from Minnesota that have been active players for a long long time have announced something big. Check this Kickstarter for more information without reading my thoughts on this.

Con of the Rings

This is a three-day convention that is all about the Lord of the Rings LCG. The convention will be held at the FFG centre in Roseville, MN where the game is being developed. Players from around the world can attend this convention to get a taste of what they may have missed at Gen Con 2018. The convention will be held between October 12th and 14th over the weekend. This would be a great opportunity to meet up with players that you have met online, and other enthusiasts of the game.

At this convention, you can meet podcast hosts, blog writers, and perhaps even the developers themselves. During the convention, you will be able to play newly developed game modes, such as the brand new competitive game mode that will be introduced during Gen Con. Fan made game modes such as Beorn’s Draft mode will also be available for testing there. To top it all off, there will be exclusive swag for this convention, for which you will only have this opportunity to snatch it.

The Con will need a Kickstart to get going, but if the goals are met in time, the convention might become an annual event exclusive to LOTR LCG players. This does not mean that you will be unable to play other games, as the convention hall is in the FFG centre, and those guys have produced other games that you can play and buy as well.

To make sure that you can get everything sorted out, head on over to the Cardboard of the Rings Discord server to arrange meetups, and maybe find a place to crash if you are staying more than one day. You will have to arrange some things yourselves, but the community will support you if you ask.

I personally am really excited for this and am currently looking into possibilities to go there this year if the goals are met. Since I live on the other side of the Atlantic, the trip will take a bit longer, but this should be a great substitute for Gen Con which I will not attend this year. I will keep you updated on my plans as we get closer to October.

Introducing Con of the Rings 2018, a fan-driven convention for LotR: LCG to be held at Fantasy Flight Games Center in Roseville, MN on October 12-14, 2018. Come join us as we take on a large-scale saga campaign, where groups will play their own part in the larger “fellowship” beating all the saga quests. Other organized play events include the Bear Draft (cube draft format) and the new competitive format introduced in The Wizard’s Quest. But wait, there’s more! There will be daily raffles for FFG gift cards, exclusive con swag, and a special, live recording of Cardboard of the Rings!
