Storage Solutions: Deanydotcom

The following storage solutions article will be the first in a new wave of updates to the Storage Hub this year. Hopefully, the revival of this series will help newer players discover a creative way to store their cards. Have a look at the storage hub for short descriptions and images on how to create these wonderful storage boxes for yourself. And if you have a unique storage method to share, feel free to reach out with an article like this accompanied by some pictures for me to add, and we will convert it into an article.

The following article was created by Deanydotcom, a loyal follower of the blog, who stores his collection in wonderfully crafted wooden boxes.

As people may know, if they have read my threads on CotR, I love a good storage plan, here was
my original idea, when I first started collecting the cards, I quickly knocked these up which fit
inside the boxes, and allowed me to fit all the cards from the deluxe expansion and the adventure packs into the deluxe expansion box, it’s only problem was that it couldn’t be stacked, so took up a lot of space. As I quickly collected the packs I needed, this became outdated very quickly!!

Encounter cards

My next creation was a large box that filled the entire card collection and all the fan-made stuff too…..but guess what, it started to take up too much room and I needed to try another idea. I’ve shared the picture I used to route out the top of the box. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the box, I also built a Mark 2 which was smaller and stackable, but as you can probably tell, I get bored quickly. If you also look at the picture, you will see an old iPad2, outdated, in Apple terms, but once I stripped everything off it, I was able to load all the instruction sheets for all the quests, it’s a very easy way to play the games without having to get all the instructions out for each different quest.

Player cards

The player cards I store in folders, I find it so easy to find the cards I need this way, funnily
enough, I’ve never found a better way than this, I store heroes and all their associated cards by
their spheres in a separate folder, 3 cards in each pocket, unsleeved. I then have 50 coloredsleeves that I put the cards in, which helps me differentiate between cards when playing 2/3/4 player and also when I have a 50-card deck. Again, a lot of players like to sleeve all their cards, but I find this wasteful when a good fifty percent of my cards never really see the table that often. It’s not that the cards aren’t good, it’s just that I tend to play six different decks or mixtures of those same decks, maybe I need to get more adventurous.

In this last photo, I was showing that you could fit 3 sleeved cards within the pockets of my
folders, what I couldn’t understand was why you would want too. The folders are from Vault X and so are the sleeved pockets, they are Vault X 9 pocket sideloaders.

Tokens

My tokens I keep in plastic tubs with lockable lids, I have lots of different ones that I use, food
dishes, old jars, and the more usual token silos. Tokens seem to be a very personal thing, and with so many different ways of storing them, it’s pointless for me to try to show you them all. I will also say that I use a lot of my tokens for different games, the glass tokens I have from Drac’s Tokens, are used on my Heroes of Terrinoth playthroughs, as they are very alike, but I’ve now gone back to the card tokens that came in the updated base game, in denominations of 1,3 and 5.

Encounter Cards (again)

A later edition to store my encounter cards has been the square ply boxes available on
Etsy…..I’ve become lazy in my old age and stopped making them, let’s face it, the amount of time to make these far outweighs their costs! I have one for the main Cards, one for the saga cards and POD cards, one for fan-made, and one I recently got for the nightmare cards, I have now started to buy (at ridiculous prices it seems, I wish they would get a reprint).

And now, I’m hopefully on my final change, which is the Arkhive boxes, which I really do love, very easy just to grab and take with me to a game meet I attend locally, I will eventually print some stickers for the front telling me what’s inside. I really do like this idea, and I’m able to fit tokens and nightmare cards in each box, which is great.

And yes, I really do need to tidy this room, there are mats and games everywhere…..but surely we are all guilty of that. I hope you enjoyed seeing all the different storage changes I’ve made, I’m looking forward to see yours, hopefully, they are not better, as I really don’t want to change again.

These are a few games I’ve played on various mats I have, will be using my VotP mat this week, but still have not used my CotR humongous mats yet, but that day will come. Thanks for letting me show you all these creations, I hope I’ve managed to get your juices flowing and ready for creating the next level of storage…….possibly one I’ll end up choosing to upgrade too LOL!

PS, I found a picture of the mat storage box I made. I sold this at the same time as the large box in the background, they were made to match, so I didn’t want to separate them, I’m in the middle of a material wall mountable mat holder, that is constructed using large toilet roll holders, I’ll share that once it’s finished.

And just in case these are of any use to anyone, I’ve shared them here, just a few bits I used when I created the folders and other bits and pieces.
